Broadband Speed??

Got a freebie upgrade to 10mb on the Virgin Cable broadband. Did a few tests using this:-

PC Pitstop Bandwidth Speed Test

Results were similar at different times of day - the best Ive just got is:-

Download Speed - 9915kbps
Upload Speed - 492kbps

I was pretty impressed with the download but the upload is complete sh1te. Photos take for ever to upload.....

Are there any settings I can tinker with or is this all preset by the provider?

Thanks
Karl

Re: Broadband Speed??

Hi Dodgy loner,
No Surprise there, Uploads have always been slower than down, I think it is sh1te as well, but it is another way to control files sharers. I am on virgin 2 MB which only gives 256K up. Since the government decided to log all internet and e-mail traffic in their data base I have decided to give them something to log, I have a web browser running that automatically selects a random page to open every 3 seconds, my e-mail program sends random mail to my web mail services, which for some reason send immediate responses back, mail boxes seem to be full. I do have to turn these off when I am playing online games or the kids want to use MSN, or Facebook, this is caused by the upload bandwidth being taken over by my background usage. If everyone starts to do this they'll have so much data they'll need a million guys just to check it all. Hey I just fixed the umemployment problem.
LOL
Cheers
Mick
PS if they made my upload bandwidth the same as the down, I could pick web pages 10 times a second and I'd need another 20 web mail accounts, and I could still play Cabalonline.
I use Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Might be better using the server in New Zealand. Not much difference.

Re: Broadband Speed??

Hmm I'd never thought about it but having a quick look on Google it seems that download is about 10 to 20 times faster than upload.

Baza are you sure you haven't got the chair stood on the network cable squashing it?
