iPhone SatNav

For those of you with an iPhone, you can now buy SatNav software for it.
Navigon is available from the iTunes store

£38 for UK only map or
£58 for Europe (Albania ,Andorra ,Austria ,Belarus ,Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina ,Bulgaria,Czech Republic ,Croatia ,Denmark ,Estonia ,Finland ,France ,Germany ,Gibralter, Greece,Hungary, Ireland, Italy,Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithunia, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Monaco, Mentenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia, Slovakia ,Slovenia, Spain, UK ,Vatican)

You need the latest firmware 3.0 to run it.Couple of criticisms I have .
1) Doesnt recognise full postcode, so you need the name of the road you want to go to.
2) Lacks a bit of detail on the mapping .I like to see the names of the nearby roads.

But it worrks well enough. And from my short use of it, it is pretty accurate.

You got the name of the app sal? Not sure how much this will cost you on the old data roaming changes while overseas - If its not downloading then it could be a cheap option for emergency sat nav!

Re: iPhone SatNav

Possibly the same question as Dodzi, does this load maps to your iphone or is it similar to the Vodafone effort which requires an internet connection for location and mapping.?

Re: iPhone SatNav

Am off out soon, will test it in airplane mode, which I presume means the phone part is switched off, so no data is downloaded. Will report back later.

Re: iPhone SatNav

Well, it doesnt work in airplane mode. I assume that turns GPS off?
Reset the data counter, switched back to phone mode. When I got home my usage was :sent 77.0KB /received 441KB .
The only problem is that could have been when it checked for email?

According to a couple of sites though, Navigon does NOT use any data,so you can use it abroad no problem.

One thing though, it drains the battery fast!! In about 35 minutes went from 100% battery to 70% .
So really need to use with a charger.

So that's probably a "I've got quite close but need final directions to get there" which might just be what I was looking for. I quite like the getting the map out and looking things up. I think if you need to remember to switch data roaming and 3g off (and possibly knock the email pickup off) while your over't water to make sure you don't get stung for data charges!
