Re: Canon IP3500 and Vista

You are right Roger.
This PC came with Vista already on it from new.
Does that make a difference?
My last printer was a canon Pixma IP3000 and I had no problems whatsoever with setting it up.
I did notice that the IP3500 is not on the list of compatibles for Vista on the Canon website.
Am I right in thinking that this is not an oversight and that I need to swap printers again?

Re: Canon IP3500 and Vista

The printer driver for the ip3500 2.10 says it is compatable with Vista.
Could it be your loggin is not authorising this install, But it should tell you if that was the case.
Are you logged in with administrator privileges?

I am the administrator on this system.
The error message doesn't make mention of administration problems, just a failure to copy program information.
You are right about the software saying that it's compatible with Vista but if you look elsewhere on the site for a list of printers which are, the IP3500 is not listed.
From memory, there's a 3300 and a 4000 but nothing in the middle which I find odd.

So it is.
Well that's saved me swapping the printer and thinking that'd cure the problem - Thanks Nicholas.
I don't know what to try next now.
I've tried the download version of the software as well as the original copy and they both fail to load.
What's next??

Yes it does. Vista has a different directory layout from XP, but if you upgrade XP to Vista, it sort of keeps the XP layout. The Canon driver install program is probably looking in the wrong place or a for a directory that doesn't exist. Suggest you contact Canon support and at the very ask them about ab install log.

Tried that on Friday Roger but I missed their hours.
Will try again tomorrow.
Thanks for that.

Re: Canon IP3500 and Vista

Vista is strange to sat the least, you maybe looged in as the administrator but not have the correct privelidges.
try right clicking the 'install.exe'(if that what it is) and choos install as adminitrator. It worked for me.

I was trying to install Alcohol 120% and it kept bombing out on me, had a read up and found by right clicking you get the full admin rights

Re: Canon IP3500 and Vista

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I finally got it working after days of trial and error.
I eventually copied all the files from the OEM software disc into a new folder file in my hard drive "Driver" folder.
I installed it from there and it worked.
What a rave.
Canon "Helpline" was as much help as a chocolate fireguard but at least it's up and running.

Thanks again.
