Exclamation Virus alert

On NO account open any emails with the title Fotos 27/06. This email goes through your contact list sending the virus on to all your contacts. I received it and its taken an hour or so to warn all my contacts. If for any reasons I have emailed you delete this message before opening. It contains the Trojan virus. I'm sure somebody on here will know more about it.

Unfortunately this one deposits a package of "goodies" on your machine, including a backdoor trojan. If you use this machine to do any banking you need to take urgent action immediately.

Re: Virus alert

This should not be a problem if you have reliable up to date security software running on your computer. Also make sure that you have all available windows updates installed.

I beg to differ. Firstly, if it's got on the PC, it's got through the security software. Secondly, these Russian/Chinese Trojans will often target and disable the security and may even stop Windows from reporting it is disabled.

When it "got on the PC" was the anti virus software and windows updates up to date? Any reliable and up to date security suite should have been sending out alarm signals and not let it get residence on the PC. I have never had a problem with anything like that (touch wood ;-)).

No good bolting the door after the horse is gone.

Unfortunately Urrelll, that's bad advice and totally irrelevant to my point. If he has a backdoor trojan, he needs to take action now. Unfortunately, I see this every day, and even the best security is not foolproof. Russbott, first needs to deal with the security issue. Then he needs to decide whether to try and sort out the trojan or reformat and only then is there any point in dealing with the security software.

Re: Virus alert

It was only after opening the link that I received the warning. Luckily AVG picked it up so managed to do a full scan and heal what files I could but that never stopped it sending to all my contacts.

Any advice Roger?

All security and windows updates installed
