Well my cornish friends i was reading about a local napoleonic fort and tunnels built by a lot of cornish tin miners ,the locals thought they were french prisoners of war .In fact the cornish were speaking in cornish which is very similar to Breton. ...........

| Re: Language Cornish and Welsh miners were everywhere digging tunnels due to their expertise in this field, they also helped build and dig new defences at Chatham (Fort Amhurst) during the Napoleonic war. Also the Cornish language and Breton is very similar as "Little Britain" (Brittany) was created when there was a mass exodus from Cornwall back in the post roman period, hence Cornouaille (Cornwall) and Domnonee (Devon) I am a smarty pants

i think there mining skills was down to there short legs and long arms, and yes like you essjay when youve had a pint or three you start talking Cornish or giberish!!! ![]() john

Having lived in Brittany for a while, it is quite interesting that they (the folks that speak Breton, of course) understand Cornish and Welsh. Also if you have a look at a map of Brittany (Petite Bretagne) you will see a lot of familiar place names that start with TRE or PEN etc. Kind regards from the Aquitaine JohnB
