Searching for a hard tail.

New guy here. Great forum. Just signed up for full membership.

Currently selling a fatboy - want something lighter. Always loved bobbers.

If anyone can point me to any hardtail bobbers I'd be much obliged!

Cheers,

Re: Searching for a hard tail.

Hello Frank, welcome to the forum and the Club.

Bobbers and hardtails are great to look at.... but might I offer a bit of advice? Before you buy one, ride one; and I don't mean just round the block.

If you haven't ridden a hardtail before, you really need to take a friend's for a good hour's rideout before you cut and shut your pride and joy only to find that your back/arse/legs/brain/arms (delete as appropriate) can't hack it any further than the paper shop.

Chances are you'll be fine; but it can be an expensive way to find out that you're not.

Take a look at Kev and me (we both have rigids) and you might not be so keen

Rigids are literally a pain in the arse. There are a number of businesses that specialise in building bobbers but it's not that difficult to do yourself.

Trawl the web for images of bobbers and get a good idea of what you want your bobber to look like and then approach a builder. You're more likely to get what you want if you can do that.

Very good advice. May I respectfully add kidneys to that list !! If you want the look, the softails do it, except for the big back fender which obviously has to accomodate the movement of the wheel. I saw some French guy got round this by arranging the fender to move with the wheel/swinging arm. It was on a Bobber site and he'd made several like it. Google, image, bobber you should find it. Any fool can be uncomfortable !

Re: Searching for a hard tail.

Pegs, bars & seat really need to be set up to suit you, or you'll be in for some pain.. if your thinking of buying a finished bike you should be prepaired to spend a bit more getting it right for you. If your thinking of paying to have a bike built for you then the same applies, you'll have to ride it to get it right, and not just round the block. You should also think about your service plan, the upkeep of a custom bike is considerably more time consuming than a stock bike (presuming you intend to use it rather than show it).

Re: Searching for a hard tail.

Thanks for all the advice. Yeah I've driven a mates ones, love/ hate thing - for me it's a love.

Steve48's bike sure is a beauty although I see he was having issues with his clutch/ gearbox... was it resolved in the end? It's definitely one I'll bear in mind. Here is perfect example of what I'd like (maybe I'd add springer forks)... twas built by Fenland Chop

Anyway if you see any knocking about pls post em here. I'm searching eBay, gum tree, dealers, are there any specific place I should be looking?

Re: Searching for a hard tail.

I know of a couple of rigids that are for sale, both havent been completed yet, so you get to pick your colour etc. One is a 1200 sporty in a Kraftec frame, lots of nice one off parts, been on the road unpainted for a couple of months to sort out any probs, now in bits being painted (owner spent a lot of money on it, but now needs to sell it), the other is a 127 inch evo chop.

Do you know what kind of style your looking for? Bobber, chop, fat front end, long spindly front end ? Evo, TC, XL motor? You could always built your own, its not that difficult if you have a garage to work in, and great fun too.

PM me for more details if needed.

Ta, Lee
