Exhaust support bracket.

I have been having problems with the exhaust system on the FXR for a while now. There is no mounting bracket to the gearbox as there is no bracket welded to the downpipes. The rear of the silencer is supported by a rubber mounting that is frame mounted, so basically the whole exhaust system is only solidly mounted at the head. After welding the downpipes up for the second time I decided to look into things further.

I searched the downpipe and silencer part numbers on the Supertrapp website and it turns out the system is for a Softail, not a FXR. I had a trip down to Lincoln HD rot inspect a few exhaust mounting brackets and went home with a plan.

I had a rummage around the garage and found a length of 1-1/8" seamless tube from an old frame build and some 4x2" box section (TIP. Box section is good for making small brackets with as you don't have to bother bending it....just cut a section out the size you need).

First task was to make a horizontal bracket to fit onto the 2 bolts underneath the gearbox end cover. I then tacked this to the seamless tube and checked for fit. It was good so I welded it up.

Next up was a vertical bracket to mount to the rear of the gearbox.....again, tack, check and weld Same thing with the bracket on the end to support the silencer. I also put a slight upward bend in the tube so as to follow the upswept silencer better.

A lick of paint and hopefully no more cracked pipes. Wasn't a difficult job but it was a real pain taking the pipes off every time the bracket had to come off

Did the MAG demo run today OK, about 150 odd miles.....in fact the vibration patch around 2000 rpm is much reduced so that's a bonus.

Re: Exhaust support bracket.

I am keeping the faith Paul, even at this distance. We now have a Red team in Melbourne competing in the A League .... and I am not the only Tricky supporting them....
