Speedo on a 2000 fatboy tc

Hi

I am customising my 2000 tc fatty. I want to take off the tank dash and have the speedo mounted somewhere else. Don't want it mounted down between my legs! also I am not keen on the Decota led style speedo would like it to look like and older style speedo. Any segestions of where it could be mounted and how, also which speedo to use. All help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Schoe000,

Give us a few more clues Schoe000, like what you're aiming at stylewise, are you going for the latest Swoopy fashion or Old school or whatever.

The main Custom Catalogues have loads of custom speedos on offer, most of the catalogues can be found on-line so you don't have to cough up for the book.

Dakota Digital is only one of many different methods of the speedo issue, some folks use bicycle speedos as they're small and can be well hidden but still readable.

Go with what YOU want. I reckon someone, somewhere on this site will be able to give advice on fitting practically any speedo onto a 2000 Fatty.

Re: Speedo on a 2000 fatboy tc

Thanks Chiefy

Was thinking along the lines of something fitted on the handle bars about 2 inch in diameter either chrome or black, old school type with a dial not digital. The speedo at the moment is run by eclectic not mechanical cable and I would like something that would be compatible with that if possible so it would (hopefully) be a case of fitting it to the handlebars and connecting some cables. I am trying if possible to avoid converters.

Any Idea?

Thanks

Both Custom Chrome and Motorcycle Storehouse catalogues feature Electronic Analogue Speedos, smallest I could find with a quick look is 48mm Diameter. I suspect all the major cats have the same or similar speedos in.

You might have to rig up a new sensor, not a big deal, you might be able to use the Fatboys sensor but thats for you to sort out.

Try visiting your local independant dealer, they'll have a rake of Custom goodie catalogues and be able to give you some advice.

I am using a MMB speedo on my sporty chop, its a great bit of kit, and its also compatible with the stock harley speedo sensor, you just need to configure a couple of bits (full instructions given) its small and cheap compared to the Dakota

I paid about £120 for mine i think. I am also fitting mine to the handlebars, it comes with a basic bracket so you will need to buy or make a bracket to mount it to your bars, i have used a 1" billet clamp that i had kicking around from a previous project.
