Voodoo Choppers - looks nice, doesn't go very far!

Anyone see the Voodoo Choopers vs Cory Ness Build Off?

I quite liked the Voodoo bike:

Only problem is that to achieve the look he wanted Eric Gorges had to use a tiny tank with massive twin carbs. First time out the bike delivered a whopping 35 miles before it ran out of gas - I ask you, what is the point of that?

Ah. the old style over function thing. It's not new though is it, back in the mid eighties a club bro of mine build a crackin' Honda4 Lowrider. It was a looker but with a 9 pint tank and F'off big carbs if we went out anywhere with him we had to drop in for fuel every 25 miles. Had to fill it up 2 or 3 times just running from Essex down to The Kent custom Show ..... worth it though, he got a nice shiney prize

Phil....

It's all about aesthetics in one way or another,- otherwise we all be riding about on f**kin' practical H0nd@ Dev1!!e5.

I've almost got my bike like I want it now, but it's slow, lacks acceleration, is cr@p in the rain- (since the fenders got the angle grinder treatment, along with the pillion seat), the open primaries rip my jeans to f**k, and the suicide shift is murder in town,
All in all it's probably the most impractical bike I'll ever owned, But it looks cool & I love it, and it'll always be mine.

I think Phil is closer to the mark because for some people it's not all about aesthetics but all about practicality. For you, as you say, it's aesthetics over practicality but for the Domino Pizza Co. (the other end of the scale) it's all about costs, reliability and ease of use with aesthetics nowhere on the radar.

In between you get dispatch riders, commuters, sports bike riders, tourers and cruisers etc... all with different requirements and the forms are dictated by these required functions, to a lesser or greater degree.

Chops are far out there, form IS function but there comes a limit when form inhibits the motorcycles ability to function- 25 miles per tank is pushing the limit as to the right of the machine to be classed as a motorbike as opposed to a work of art with a limited forward mechanical transport ability- i.e. a case of style over function.
