Ness Chrome

This has been bugging me for a year, since the chrome on my Ness-tech rocker covers started lifting.

Why is Ness chrome so crap? I can see it pickling on the levers & switchgear now too. I took the covers in this week to be gloss black powder coated, and the guy who's doing it gave one part a quick blast and told me he rarely sees good chroming on anything that comes in from the States.

Is it just the fact we have weather?

That’s not totally fair, every Harley Davidson is a ticking time bomb where it’s chrome is concerned, aluminium and cast alloys react with the chrome so they put a nickel plate in between the two materials to keep them apart, (yes I know there is more to it than that!!) but that’s the bottom line, I’ve taken several parts to the chromers and been told to keep it clean at all times otherwise the dirt will exasperate the reaction and your chrome will just fall off!! On Monday I took my headlamp nacelle and various parts to London chroming to be re-plated, last year I spent a couple of hundred pound getting parts re chromed!!

I think it is part of maintaining your bike.

Says it all DC. When you've ridden it, take care of it and clean it if you want it to stay looking good.
Thankfully, I've had no chrome problems yet,03 FLSTCi, but I now it would drive me nuts if it started lifting off
