Springer front end

Hi Guys.
I am thinking of putting a springer front end on my rigid generstor shovel
Harley Bobber / Chopper Front End on eBay (end time 03-Oct-09 07:42:34 BST)

but i am not sure how to measure the correct length of forks to order.
I have jacked the bike off the ground and measured the extended length of the existing forks from the wheel spindle to the lower headstock bearing which comes out to 53cm which equates to 2 inch over stock springers as they are 53 cm length from spindle to lower headstock bearing give or take a few mm. I intend to buy inline springers, will the bike still have the same ride height as the old forks or do springers sit lower ?. Am i trying to make this harder than it is. Any advice will be appreciated.

Re: Springer front end

Hi,

Fitted a springer on my custom built shovel. Did find a helpfull bit of info in Custom Chrome catalogue, and seemed to work for me.
iCatalog Full Page - Section: 15. Forks & Shocks / Page 15.4 / Custom Chrome
Also did find another size chart via a Google search which was a bit more detailed, but that one escapes me at moment.

Good Luck!

Re: Springer front end

nothing to do with the question, but I'm sure I saw that bike when I was working on the pipeline job in the Cross Hands / Felindre area a couple of years ago?

Re: Springer front end

The picture is of my bike. I only fitted the Springer front end last winter. Best thing I ever did on this bike, it far outhandles the old FXR front end that it had on previously. If you want to check on the fork length these springers are off an early Springer Softail and result in the front end sitting about an inch higher than before.
