No Mark it's just that you now have 3 post with the same question!...

Not a problem..Just look in Virtual Rally where you will get a wider audience to your question...;)

as an entry bike which is what a sportster is considered to be then its a very expensive way to get your fingers burnt financialy
if thats what you want and like then great it will suit you.
as for power. the 883 is relatively under powered compared to say a jap model of the same cc
two up forget it unless they radically rethought the suspension you get 200lb/inch which mean a single average sized rider or two dwarfs
reliable sure why not
the trouble is you end up spending loads of money trying to achieve this that and the other and the only people who benefit are the dealers.
my advice for what its worth try one, try a secondhand one
dont buy a new one, because they lose so much money and it will hurt.

East Mids region meet on the first Sunday of the month in Derby ( see flyer above) come along for a drink and a chat. We'll help you no problem. We'll also help you spend your money on a Harley. My mate Chris goes two up on his 1200 sporty and I went two up on my 883 without any problems. An 883 will convert to 1200 easily and cheaply so is an option also worth considering.

It is a problem being a shorty as the choices are a little limited, I must admit, but I'm 5' 5" and ride a Dyna Low Rider quite comfortably and I love everything about it.

Like Alan says, come along to one of our meetings and we'll chew the fat over it all.

sorry simon I disagree with you there

sportsters hold there value so well you may as well buy a new one

they are only £5k new and regardless of how old they are they will always command more than £3k second hand

yes but you never see any of the monies you spend on extras in a vain attempt to make it something it isnt
and i do know had two
but in the next breath you say they drop as from new up to two grand

Re: hi im new here and live in loughborough

yeah but spending on them is a labour of love surely..i have spent countless amounts on my 1966 lambretta(sorry i know its a scooter) when i sell it i wont get the money back that i have spent on it...but ive had the enjoyment from it while have had it.

all i need to know is that an 883 will ride 2 up nicely.

Re: hi im new here and live in loughborough

A lot depends on wether you just going for a Sunday ride or disappearing abroad on a long trip. I don't have a problem with distance riding 2 up but obviously people size makes a big difference. Best thing to do is a test ride. Yes the rear shocks are poor 2 up and the standard pillion seat is worse. If you buy a new standard 883 don't have the standard pillion put on it's a waste of money. Get a better quality touring seat. If you go that way and need a pillion seat you can have my old one until you can afford a decent one.
