Re: How about a ride to to 'Vic in Coalville?

have you ever been there?

it is truely dire

it will take 20 minutes to get served and when you have been served you will wonder why you bothered

I can't think of one positive thing to say about it

Re: How about a ride to to 'Vic in Coalville?

if you are serious about riding your bike to a decent pub and seeing some decent machinery try the 2nd tuesday of each month and a meet at a pub in ashby folville, its about 20 miles form nottingham

alternatively last friday of every month over summer there is a meet (was last year anyway) centre of melton mowbray

and on the first sunday of every month there is the regional club meeting in Derby

All of the above venues have more interesting bikes and better beer than the Queen Vic in Coalville

Re: How about a ride to to 'Vic in Coalville?

Ah well, here's the last episode in the tedious tale of my ride to the 'Vic...

I rode there last night and only found the place after a smokin' (big oil leak burning off on his downpipes) streetfighter pulled into the layby where I had stopped to try and work out where I was... Funny when you get out of a car with satnav and onto the bike, you actually have to navigate ;-) Good for the brain I guess.

Anyway, it was friendly, people were chatting and having a laugh... I have to agree with Kiwi though, the Speckled Hen was awful ;-)

There was a couple on a very nice FXR-SP who were good company, ex members of this Club they said, just hadn't got 'round to renewing; I'm sure they will though. They put me in touch with a good workshop over their way, always good to know.

A Twin Cam Springer rolled in with the huge apes/tiny single sprung saddle/up-swept fishtail treatment. Very nice! Couldn't ride bars that high myself though...

In the bar the 10 stone Doberman kept an eye on things - 'don't mind the dog... wouldn't hurt a fly' - lol!

Anyway, it was (what's the phrase..?) an old style bikers pub... thank gawd they still exist, because like 'real' transport cafes they're probably an endangered species. Life can get bland in wonderful modern Britain, long live anyone who can do their own thing and make it work. And for that they deserve a measure of support...

Toodle Pip!

the vics okay but does tend to get very "slaughted lamb" at times. IE the you not be from round these parts will thee. John the landlord is very proactive on his advetising and even does a free bikers mag, strnge 955 of the events involve the vic. I had a faling out with him after he went and stuck the vics name on the toy run burton toy run organsised by the unwanteds and ribcrackers, after we used his pub as a meetin pint onthe ride one year, weird reall as we had sett of from a pub in burton to ride over to the rainbow hospice and the Vic just happned to be on the route. I was also refused permisson to put a flyer up for My clubs rally bike rally and asked to leave when I tried to hand some out to people outside whsilt talkingto them about their bikes.

I live in Coalville and think that the Vic is a small town biker pub were friends can get together for a drink, its nothing special but its close to some good riding around Charnwood forest.
If you want something better then you have to got to MFN on Wednesdays.
Bike Night - MFN Nottingham

Once a month you have the Petrol head spectacular at Ashby Folville on the second Tuesday, the event being centered around the Carrington Arms but get there early, The Village is brimming with bikes from all eras and types and the village cricket ground is used to display classic cars
The next is June 10th
Everards Brewery – Pubs – Carington Arms

Might I suggest Whoosh, that you attend one of the East Mids meetings and come and meet everyone, you're more than welcome.

As others have found out, you're unlilkely to get many takers on a ride-out when it's been organised by a complete stranger whose never been to a regional meeting, who the memebrs have never clapped eyes on and know nothing about.
