Dyno results from this morning

Got the RK on the dyno this morning just to make sure that fueling was as it should be after the winter work, got some nice results, i think Nice clean smooth lines and good torque and BHP for a 17 year old bike.

if you cant see the figures on the graph they are 80ft lb's of torque and 65bhp (at the wheel) rev limiter was set at 4.5k

Mods are
  • Heads done by fast lane
  • EV13 Cam
  • Hi4 ignition on multi fire with a screamin eagle coil and leads
  • Original CV carb with a 48 pilot and a 190 main
  • RSD filter
  • True duals with supertrapp pipes
  • RSD filter

Im sure there is still more to come if i went with a 2 into 1 and a different cam but im happy with it as it is, for now, it pulls well without being to aggressive and still gets around 50mpg.

got to put a bigger pilot in as with the current 48 the mixture is 5 turns out so will stick a 51 in it at some point i think.

Always interesting to see a Harley on the dyno. Your Torque curve looks good, nice and flat, apart from the dip between 2 and 2.5k.. did the shop mention that? It can be tricky to dial in a CV carb perfectly from what I'm told.

To compare, my old 94 Evo RK made 42 bhp when completely std, and then 60 bhp when it had a SE carb, ignition module, modded silencers ... and finally with the addition of a new cam (Crane Fireball 310b I think it was) it made 71 bhp (all figures at the rear wheel).

Your doing well to get 50mpg, after the mods on my RK I averaged around 39 to 40 mpg. If you went for a more agressive cam you'd get more power for sure, but I expect your mpg would suffer.

they did mention the dip, they blamed the carb but as it smoothed out afterwards were not overly focused on it. One of the reasons i went for the EV13 cam is that it gives all its improvement in the middle third of the rev range (3.5-5k rpm) which is were in reality it spends most of its life, my old fxr had a ev27 and was much more punchy at higher speeds because of it but with the road king i didnt see the point and wanted the grunt lower down, i guess because the cam gives it all in the middle cruising mpg is not really affected as much.

OK so a decent 2 into 1 would give you some more by taking advantage of the 28 degree overlap in your cam but at more expense and would also drastically change the lines of the bike. The shape of that curve is near perfect - it comes on strong at under 2000 rpm and peaks at 3500 rpm. Nothing wrong with that - 1 ft/lb per cubic inch is a great result!

Hi Mate, hope your not working to hard I completely agree, i love the look and sound of the current 2 into 2 and also am very happy with the low down and mid range performance, living in the middle of suburbia and riding a bagger its where i spend most of my time!

not on the printouts no but they did the setup on the dyno while it was rolling, i was getting between 12.5 and 13 throughout the rev range if i remember correctly which is apparently were it should be
