Roadking wheelbearing shims?

Just stripped the cast wheels down on my 97 RK, ready to recoat, and have found some shims in the front hub. On nearside, oilseal and bearing. On offside, oilseal, bearing and 2 shims and 1 thin shouldered washer between bearing and spacer. Is this normal? i thought bearing freeplay was set by different spacer lengths, or was that just on me old shovel?
Any info gratefully received, cheers Sam.

I think about 1991 they went from using different length wheel spacers to a standard spacer, shouldered washer and shims.

If you need new/more shims, go to dealer/indie. Attempts to find these through your local fasteners shop will fail.

And as ever, your factory parts book reveals all.

Ok, thanks both very much for the info , shims make more sense than fooling around with different length spacers, dont have a parts book/w'shop manual yet, looking into extending mortgage so i can afford em...

Fresh grease and endfloat check every 20,000 miles, and Timkens are good for 100,000 miles or more. You need the Factory Manual to set them up right.
Has to be said, the cost of the manual is a poor excuse, you've had the RK for at least a year, that's £1.15 a week. You could have asked for one for Christmas.

Re: Roadking wheelbearing shims?

Fair comment and i will shell out the required sponds at the end of this month if i get the nod from me surgeon. Burst a disc in me back early jan, only been out on bike a few times, not at all since end of May when i had an op to sort out the problem. Hoping to ride again, untill that time I'll just keep fixing the few things i can do cheaply, (still on part time light duties). I do appreciate all the help and advice i've received, thanks again guys.
