Indicator problems on my FXSTS

Anybody out there shed any light on my little problem. When I turn my left indidcator it won't turn off the normal way ie pressing it again or automatic cancel. When I turn my right indicator on when the left is off the left comes on. The hazard lights work fine.

HELP!

Just writing any ideas did the question get lost?........ would have bumped your post to the top!

Hope you haven't pissed anyone off that may know the answer.

Re: Indicator problems on my FXSTS

Didn't see the thread when originally posted and I keep a pretty good look out.

Have you made any changes recently that could cause this fault? Changed handlebars, removed and replaced the tanks etc? althouh I suspect a faulty module.

What year is it?

The indicator module is mounted under the dash on late model evo softails and is easy to get at.

Re: Indicator problems on my FXSTS

Hi Baza & Girlyglide thanks for the help . I'll have a mosey through these and see what I can find. I only got the bike about three weeks and this is the first (And hopefully last) problem I've got with it. It's had new bars and chrome switch housings put on it and the guy who I bought it off had fitted a new relay before I got it. Push comes to shove I'll just have to buy new switches and fit them over the winter, until then I'll be waving my arms like a madman, now where's my old highway code hmmm.

I hope I haven't pissed anyone off, but I joined the HDRCGB hoping to meet and talk to people about HD's and not get looked down upon by other clicky HD riders which I found when I had a sportster.
Again if i have pissed anybody off

Re: Indicator problems on my FXSTS

Nah yer fine....no sweat.

I don't have indicators so i couldn't offer good advice, but i do recall when dealing with the pesky bastids that a blown bulb or a grounded wire could cause all kind of tricky symptoms. There *will* be a simple fault somewhere...and it will be worth checking that no wires have been snagged with the new chrome switch housings....for instance.

PS: anyone who 'looks down at you'' for owning a Sportster is a moron, and around here is treated as such.

This is what I'm getting at. Check the last thing that was changed and you quite often come across the problem. It's easy to pinch wires etc with the dimpled handlebars and switch clusters. Why was the relay changed?

Ask whoever you bought it off if he knows what the problem is, if it's something he knows about then it's no skin off his nose to come clean and tell you.

Re: Indicator problems on my FXSTS

Hello Kiwidave, I may resort to your tactics and drag the buggers off if I can't fix em. Believe me when I first got my sportster my first HD may I add, last year other HD riders around here in the Mersyside area seemed to look at me with some contempt.

Girly glide I'll do what you suggested I'll just undo a few things like switch housings and check them out, just in case a wire may have been pinched. The guy I bought it from told me that he fitted a new relay as he was havig a similar problem. I shall endeavour to try and sort it out, otherwise I'll have a tired arm .
Either of you know if I can get a headlamp visor for a standard 5 3/4" headlight for my bike?
