So How Heavy ?

Is my 98 Evo Roadking, with a full tank and oil and various add on shiny bits.
the reason I ask is that Makro`s are selling a bike lift for 40 quid,
I went to have a look at it today it dont go on sale for 40 quid till next weds at the moment its Ł70.00
it looks quite well made and pretty hefty, and after lifting I would chock with lumps of wood , so all seems O.K but it does say on the box only for use with bikes up to 400 KG. so will it be man enough.........
any advice as ever greatly appreciated..
spice..

Re: So How Heavy ?

It's right on the limit. My RKC with TC engine goes about 396kg...I think.

Re: So How Heavy ?

Twin Cam Road Kings are 332/345kg dry weight.

400 max should be ok mate as yours is a bit lighter

Sorry,....I don't know where I got that figure from, anyway I design and build hydraulic lifting equipment, and have done for years.

If a lift is rated at 400kg, then it is tested at maufacture to a 25% overload for 1 hour with only a 2% drop allowed. The prototype was or should have been tested to a further 35% destruction overload. This means it was tested to 675kg before something broke. This could have been a hydraulic failure or a main frame failure.
Unfortunatly there is a flood of Chinese or similar bits of kit entering this country that have somehow bypassed all tests, and are obviously apon inspection just not up to it. Remember...you only get what you pay for. You pays your money and takes your chance with some things.
It will probably be alright for your purpose for lifting only, but it may not take too much rolling about with the bike on it before the frame goes.
I have a lift rated at 700kg and the frame flexes on that when I roll it along the floor with my Road King on it.

Re: So How Heavy ?

We use two bike lifts in the shop; one rated at 400kgs and one at 450kgs.

The 450kg lift we reserve for the heavier touring models like Roadkings and Electraglides although the 400kg lift will easily lift them.
