HELP! Again

Sorry to be a pain everbody to out there. I was giving the bike a clean today and noticed there was oil on the bottom of the primary cover. It's a clear fluid and feels thin. Any ideas as I'm not use to big twins yet? Also are big twins a bugger to start this time of year because this f****r love being plugged into the optimate.

Re: HELP! Again

Oil can weep out of the derby (clutch) cover or of course from through main gasket where the outer meets the inner...... you will see where the weep starts. No big deal unless you have a big puddle...

If your battery is rapidly discharging every day or two....it may need replacing soon or you may need to run a few checks on the charging system itself (see Tech Tips).

Cold temps thicken the oil and do make a bike a bit harder to start in winter.....but if the battery is tip-top that should be a minor delay only.

Re: HELP! Again

Thanks mate. It's weeping underneath at the bottom of the primary outer cover. Could the gasket be buggered? I'll borrow a multi meter from a mate and see what voltage is running through the battery while running. As I said I'm still new to big twins. Is there oil in the primary casing as I believe this has a dry clutch? As I said I bought a haynes manual and found it hard to get my head round what I'm excactly looking for. I just want to ride the bastid...

Re: HELP! Again

Funny you should say that Chilly. It didn't sound too healthy, but just thought it was due to the battery being flatter than the preverbial witches boob. What battery No is it thats goes on.

Re: HELP! Again

The oil is for the chain, the clutch runs dry-ish.

Get a factory manual.
Don't know if this does yours it's about £26 inc post ebay #330174689821
or £52 from dealer.Check out his other stuff.
Also Jan Willem Boon - Obsolete New Old Stock parts for your Harley-Davidson motorcycle and American made replacement parts look in "books" and "books special" for manual & parts book.
If you find the PT Nos for yours check the prices against Guernsey HD.

Rattler
Can't get at the battery at the moment and the invoice is no good?.

I think i got my info of the oddyssy site, the only trouble i had fitting it was the terminals were the wrong sides, but i rerouted my cables and bingo, wizzes it over like a Jap multi now.
If you have no luck finding the data you need i'll get at battery with the info you need .

Re: HELP! Again

Cheers Chilly. I've just tried the bugger again and it still won't fire up. It cranks over then dies off after about 6 seconds of cranking. I'll feel like burning the B at the moment. I'll have a nosey. Let me know if you get the model No from your battery. One thing I have noticed on the bike, it's a bit tight for space where the battery is.
