6 speed tranny

I've just fitted a new 6 speed box, but would like to ask BEFORE I refit the rear wheel assembly your opinions on which would be the best rear pulley set up to put on, I have both options of a 70 or 65 tooth option at hand with belts to suit.

Thanks

Re: 6 speed tranny

What is the stock set up for your bike & what brand of six speed did you install & what gear ratios? Bear in mind that most six speeds have an overdrive sixth. Putting too high a ratio belt/pulley combo on may give you a ridiculously high sixth gear & take away all the benefits of installing the tranny in the first place. Let us know.

If you have already fitted the primary drive then you will have to fit the pulley that matches the belt you used when assembling or take the primary off again..

Like Phil says, you need to let us know what the original pulley was, the final drive ratio of the box and finally whether you have made any perfomance mods to the engine that would allow for changing the gearing.

What 6 speed is it? Ultima, , Revtech, Zodiac, Baker, S&S?

Re: 6 speed tranny

Thanks for the replies.

The Inner primary is not yet refitted Girlyglide so the belt/pulley option is still open. The front pulley is a 32 tooth.
The engine is basically stock EVO motor with EV 27 CAM installed running a S&S SuperE carb & V&H Staggered Big Shots.

The 6 speed is the ULTIMA with the following gearing:
1st 2.94
2nd 2.21
3rd 1.6
4th 1.23
5th 1.00
6th 0.86

hope this is enough info.

Re: 6 speed tranny

Hate to be pedantic, but what model is it (bike that is)........Rear pulley etc..With those gear ratios I would keep the stock gearing.

Re: 6 speed tranny

Your making me nervous & sweaty now Phil

The bike going off the vin was first registered as 1989 springer. As i have only had the bike for 4 years, i am still trying to get to grips with mods made over the years by previous owners. As said before in an earlier thread the bike came fitted with a 32 front & 70 rear.
When you said i'm better off keeping the original gearing do you mean the pulley set up or tranny.

Ha!..........I meant the leave the final drive gearing stock.
I was wondering if you had a Softail. That trans gearing will give you a nice reduction in rpm at motorway speeds, much reducing vibration.
Putting a smaller rear sprocket on would give you much higher gearing, that I don`t think you would be very happy with.
