Alternator

My 98 Dyna's alternator has just died - i've ordered a 45 amp replacement but do I need to change the main fuse to account for the extra amps?I think the stock alternator is 32 amp.
Cheers

Re: Alternator

Hi, you should not really have to unless you got a load of lights dripping off your bike. the 45 Amp refers to what the alternator is capable of putting out.
You should be perfectly good with the current fuse. No pun intended
Are you swapping out the regulator as well? and did the windings of the alternator cook or just go open circuit? I ask as when they cook they have a disgusting smell of their own

Thanks - just the alternator (at the moment!) as I have no difference in battery voltage when revving the bike and there is zero volts at the alternator/regulator plug.
Didnt notice any smell I must say but I haven't had the primary cover off yet.

Re: Alternator

make sure the plug connection is good when testing

and be sure your battery is perfect at the same time!

make sure the regulator wire from reg to battery positive is intact
