"Fair Price or Not"

Could I have your honest opinion please,,
I have just got my bike back from "Full Throttle" an independant motor cycle workshop down where I live..
I have had a full service which consisted of the following.. Full Service using genuine HD parts, Oil`s/ Filters/plugs/HT leads/two new throttle cables + 1 spare for me/fitting of a new rear tyre.(Tyre Supplied by me)/Fabrication of a heat shield..(I keep burning my shoe`s on the exhaust he made a superb shield in chrome)M.O.T./new front and rear brake pads/sorting out an intermitant front indicator/approx 2 hours of other jobs I got him to do/and a few other jobs..
The bike runs as sweet as a nut, better than when I first got it..
The nearest HD dealer is a lot of miles from me so I thought I would give him a try, saved getting a train/coach back from my nearest HD dealer as the bike would have to of been left for a couple of days..
I know most of you do your own servicing/repairs,, but I do not have the knowledge.
He charged me £463-32 including VAT,, I pay about the same for my Ducati,,
Have I been Conned??
Thanks

Re: "Fair Price or Not"

Full service mo what was it a 5k or 10 k service it can be a big difference. But going on by what you have had done as extras I reckon.....

..... you have saved about £400 if it had gone to a dealer.

Re: "Fair Price or Not"

I too think you have had a fair deal there.

But you know what? Evos are SO easy to work on. Get the official factory service and parts manuals and start doing it yourself.

There also is a FANTASTIC book for beginners and intermediates alike called 101 PERFORMANCE PROJECTS FOR EVOLUTION H-Ds. Authored by Kip Woodring.

See it here:

Amazon.com: 101 Harley-Davidson Performance Projects: For Evolution Big Twins and Sportsters (Motorbooks Workshop): Books: Kenna Love,Kip Woodring

It really walks you through the simple stuff , unlike the manual. You will gain confidence quickly. Next to the factory manuals above, it is indispensible.

Really. Go buy it.

But keep supporting your local shop too. They sound like they are treating you right.

See page 21 HERE

Basically a 5K service is engine oil change filter and checks

10k above plus all oils, filters, plugs, lubricating , checking streering head and wheel bearings, Evo's I think the fork oil as well.

Here is an example of a www search:

Evo Big Twin (pre 2000)
2500 mile £110.74
5000 mile £206.91
10000 mile £393.24

prices inc VAT

Twin-Cam Big Twin (2000 up)
2500 mile £139.53
5000 mile £215.31
10000 mile £366.74

And those prices are NOT at a H- D dealer!
prices inc VAT
