1995 heritage speedo

On the way back from Portugal my speedo stoped working.

I have some idea of the problem, which I think is the sender or the cable

This weekend was time put aside to strip the front wheel to find the problem, I got the bike jacked up and (got the tools ready,I have a disc and brake caliper cover) only to find all the alan studs rounded off so I cant get the cover off to have a look

I would like some advice as to an easy way to get the disc and brake caliper cover off - any ideas other than drilling out the screw and retapping?

Re: 1995 heritage speedo

Are these female heads?

buy a couple of cheap METRIC Allen T-handle keys. or socket bits.

get the one that's just a morsel too big for the ruined AF Allen hole.

Drive them in carefully and bring the Allen bolt out.

I have had better luck with a ring spanner on bits rather than a socket and socket handle. The latter offers a bit much force and can just damage the stuffed hole further...... but if the bolts are really tight you may need that torque.

Male heads? Er.....got room for VISE-Grips? OR...go to Halfords/hardware store and buy a stud extractor Socket. A really good bit of kit for maybe a tenner.

Shade tree stuff but it has worked for me

Re: 1995 heritage speedo

Dozer,

Best of luck getting in there.

The speedo cable is a bit vulnerable where it screws into the drive unit on the front wheel. I had a fix on mine for many years which I think was a magneto cable sleeve off a Velocette! After it split I found a more modern cool substitute, namely a weather resistant sleeve for tv aerial cables. I have a photo somewhere....

....well I did, but have taken another.

For the sharp eyed amongst you I have just refitted the wheel and the bike is not yet roadworthy!
