Angry Backfiring problem 95 wide glide

Hi

I have a 95 Wide Glide and there is a backfiring problem. I have managed to isolate this to the rear cylinder. If i change the plugs, the problem goes away for 100 miles or so and then returns. Consistently it is the rear cylinder that is struggling to fire, although eventually when the engine has warmed up enough it will kick into action. There was a leak in the inlet manifold, so I have taken this off and resealed it.

Could this be the ignition coil that is at fault??? I'm very frustrated, the dealership I bought it from are no help whatsoever.

Appreciate your comments

thanks
Mike

Mmmmmmmm!

Ignition certainly seems a likely candidate! Is there another dealer or Harley specialist you can get to? Where are you located?

Re: Backfiring problem 95 wide glide

I'm near halifax..... I'm sure there are others, but it seems the majority are a closed book and will only make suggestions once you cross their palms with silver...... the dealer in question had the bike back when I first bought it and didn't even check the spark plugs..... it was sadly almost amusing when I rode away from the dealership on their 2007 range launch open day with the bike throwing flame out of the exhaust and popping it's head off........

Re: Backfiring problem 95 wide glide

Swap the HT leads and see if the misfire moves to the front cylinder.

Re: Backfiring problem 95 wide glide

I wouldn't order the new leads just yet. By changing the leads around and seeing if the misfire moves you can prove whether they are good or not, it still could be the coil.

Re: Backfiring problem 95 wide glide

very true.... but as a reasonably cheap option it really isn't going to hurt to have them..... I would suspect that they are the originals that are on the bike

if it proves to be the coil, any ideas on the best place to get one???

I would suggest a good indy, maybe even Girlyglide? They have been very helpful and I have NO affiliation with them.
