Talking mid controls

OK, so i know all the fashion is to have the foot controls as far forward as is possible on your harley, which is great, my 95 wide glide is incredibly comfortable when touring (not that I've been far yet!!), but being a bit of a short arse, depressing the back brake all the way can be a bit of a challenge so I have to prepare and shuffle forward a little. Can you change these to mid controls on a wide glide or do I just need to stretch my legs a little????

Re: mid controls

Yours is a common problem. Try changing your seat first - it's cheaper! HD and several aftermarket firms make special seats with more padding and a smaller seating area to move the rider forward.

Re: mid controls

My wide glide has 2 holes (blanked off) on the frame,on each side, which i assume is where the mid controls would bolt on, dont forget you'd have to relocate the shifter, which would mean a inspection cover with the hole, from say a FXD. It should be do-able tho I would have thought.

Try a Corbin Close Gunfighter seat. Will push ya a wee bit further forward and may make things a bit easier. Its rerr n comfy. Have used this seat on my FXR...the best FXR in Scotland dontcha know!!

Re: mid controls

If you aren't fabricating brackets etc yourself or having a mate do it, it's gonna be a bit spendy to do it stock-HD wise.

The left side will require mid-control shifter linkage, as stated.

The outer primary inspection cover swap-out is easy...but does the inner primary have a plugged hole on these bikes that can be reconstituted for shifter shaft? I hope so....

On the right side, if you want mid controls you are looking at a different master cylinder/brake pedal set-up.

The seat tip is a good one.

Yes, floorboards are good, but you will need a different outer primary with the mounting tab. Doesn't remove your reach issue either.

I would seriously consider some cut-and-shut welding/shortening of your brake pedal/shifter lever. Or even mounting brackets.

Brake linkage rods / gear shifter rod can be likewise trimmed.

An inch can make all the difference, as the old joke goes. That would be simplest, though you will need the customised items rechromed.

Then again, Black Hammerite is a good mate to us cheapskates!

Re: mid controls

Another couple things I did to my WG (im only 5ft 7'') was to slant the bars back a tad (only a tad) and fit extended footpegs (one inch longer) to help get my short legs around the air cleaner, this worked fine for me.
Kuryakyn also do a bigger brake pedal for FXs too, which might help you. Theres a matching longer shifter too.
