what jets ?

ok where do i start,.....im a bit confused now i`ve done searches and looked at other sites and forums and now im not too sure as what is the best set up.
the bike is a 98 fxd 1340, ive got a big sucker air filter, krome werks slip ons and a dyno jet kit.
some say fit a 45 slow jet, what i want to know is, or what i am thinking is install the dynojet kit as per instructions and fit a 45 slow jet at the same time.
i thought i would ask first as somebody must have done similar, im not worried about getting the last half a horse power out of it but i would like it to run well first time

Re: what jets ?

45 slow jet is the right jet, and if i was your good self i'd fit the Yost power tube instead of the dynojet.
The Yost is just as easy to fit and it atomizes the fuel much better, thus giving you a much more combustible mixture in the combustion chamber. And you can come down one if not two sizes on the main jet......You get better performance and more gas mileage at motorway speeds.
Either way you go, you need a 45 slow jet as long as you have a free flowing filter and aftermarket pipes

As a matter of fact V-Twinmania had it on offer a couple of weeks ago.

Harley-Davidson CV Carb Slow jet size 45 on eBay, also Harley Davidson, Motorcycle Parts, Motorcycle Parts Accessories, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 16-Mar-08 11:06:51 GMT)

Re: what jets ?

finally got around to fitting my new parts, so if any body is interested this is what i found and what i have done.
the carb had been played with before,

big holes in the back of the air box,
42 slow jet
190 main jet.

i have now got
alen ness big sucker
45 slow jet
170 main jet,(dynojet)
needle third groove,3 washers, (dynojet)
drilled the slide
used the standard spring

i wont be able to road test for another week (bloody work!!)
but i did start it up, and what a difference, instant throttle responce
not like the strangled chicken it was!!
i think the 170 main should be alright as i dont ride at full throttle all the time
