Re: 5-Speed FXR clutch puller

Hello Baza, had a look at the list and seems to be one there for up to '84 models but '85's the first of the wet clutches. I'll give Andy a bell just in case though. Thanks again. - PW

Re: 5-Speed FXR clutch puller

I have used a 4 speed clutch puller on my 86 5 speed gear box

it works ok in a fashion, but it does the job

Good news Kiwi.....

Maybe that's why Andy has the HD-95960-52C and not the HD-95960-52B

Re: 5-Speed FXR clutch puller

The need for a clutch puller is down to the drive shaft.
Tapered shaft with a key way reqires a puller, splined shaft does not, change year is '89.

Easy to make for a diaphram clutch, threaded hole for a large bolt, does not even have to be threaded can use a bolt with two nuts and four holes to accomadate the screws to go into the clutch hub.

Despite being called a puller you do not want to pull the hub off, you want to break the grip of the taper, that's what holds it on, so take up the slack, slight tension, then give the centre bolt/screw a sharp tap to break the taper and off it comes.

Here's the one I made, a bit fancy with a swivel for the bolt and very slightly over engineered!!!! but was just made it out of what I had around at the time, I also turned it round as it was an oblong plate!

But as said it does not need to be anything that neat or strong.

Nice bit of Harley engineering mate, nothing wrong with being over engineered.
The little 'button' bit i assume goes into a drill hole in the centre of the bolt.

Could i be real cheeky and ask for dimensions , would like to make one before i need it.

cheers

the bolts / bolt centres are right behind the derby cover and should be easy enough to measure

Could be if when you tap it it falls off and onto your foot, it's a bit weighty!

I'll measure it tomorrow, off to the Pub in a mo for paddys night & yep the bolt is centre drilled

7 mm holes, 74 mm between centres and a 1/2 inch bolt.

The scribed lines are still on the other side.
