Hi i have an 85 fxr, and have managed to get hold of a new pair of oe 89 fxr con saddlebags, anyone know if the differences between the 85 to 89 frames the upper shock mounts?, is it poss to have my 85 shock mounts moved forward to the same position as the 89 model?.
any ideas much appreciated

Re: FXR 85/89 frames

I don't believe there was any frame change. The reason for your question may be the fact that the FXRS-Con model did not arrive until several years after the debut of the Evo version of the FXR, thus any parts for that model may well be labelled ''89-up'' or similar

In short...I believe you will be fine. But i am prepared to sit corrected.

Shocks on my '85 mount a few inches to the rear of the junction of the two frame rails, later shocks mount at the junction. So that the later shocks are placed at a steeper angle, the earlier being more upright. I have seen early models with the shock mounts relocated, best to get the job done well though!

Looking at mine ,i think that maybe you will need some later frame rail covers to allow the shocks to fit, thats if yours is gonna wear them.
