Exclamation BaZa with a FXWG Kicker!...Kiwidave where are you?

Ok Ok a real man's bike and maybe just maybe I may be convinced on my return.
Better extend the garage as it is for sale.

Well this is going to be my ride for my trip from St Louis to The Smoky Mountains in North Carolina in July/August. And on every rideout during the weeks stay.

It looks a cracker and it is in for a 'Heavy Service' preparing for the trip.

Quote:
Baza, looking forward to riding with you. The FXWG is in the shop now for a heavy service in preparation for the trip. It is NOT the ride your used to, old 4-speed and some vibration but the ride is only about 5 hours each day for two days. I put 14,000 miles on it last year and it will be fine also.

Your friend Joe

Any advice as this is nothing like I am used to with my TC.

It's a long long time since I have had a kicker, is it possible it may have an electric start as well?....

Joe who owns it was part exchanging it back in January when he purchased a new Heritage Softail but offered to keep it if I wanted to do the trip.

Re: BaZa with a FXWG Kicker!...Kiwidave where are you?

yum. that is a beautiful bike. 85 or 86? If it's 86 then it is the rarest Evo made, only about 900 produced.

You might get a pleasant surprise, Baza, as to the comfort of that bike.

In the last 12 months I have ridden my 1985 Evo FXEF, a 1976 Shovel FLH (both rigid-mounted engines and 4speeds) and a 2002 TC Road King....

and despite ALL the avalanche of received wisdom that you now need six speeds and you can't ride a 4speed or a rigid-mounted motor for hundreds of miles......I could barely tell the difference. Especialy between the FLH and the Road King, 26yrs apart.

Fairly equal vibes, same comfort and joy.

If it has an aftermarket ignition i.e. like a Crane Hi4, then it will kick over far far easier. If the ignition is the stock factory one, it will be a bitch to start on the pedal. It will have electric start as stock also.....that is the last bike from the factory with the kicker.

They are very lovely bikes, the 4speed Evos, combining the then-modern engine with the traditional lines and vibes and class of the Shovel FX. Dynas look the way they do because many hardcore H-D fans lamented the disappearance of the FX frame......and the FXR did not do it for the traditionalists, even though it was a better handling ride.

It won't scare you one bit. Have fun

Great as usual Dave a wealth of knowledge.

It is for sale when I have finished with it what do you think it is worth?......Any ideas please, bearing in mind I would need to ship it home.

Just got this from Joe.....

Has electric start too, 1985 FXWG. Compression is goosed up to 12.5-1 can't kick start this one. Has compression release so the battery stays up. I am a member of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club we are riding in the Booze Fighters poker run today. Have a super day yourself.
Thank GAWD for that....

Worth about Ł6,500-Ł7,000K here.....to informed sellers who will be able to get that money from someone desperate to find a matching numbers 4spd Evo. You can't write them off as ''very early Evo, worth bugger all'' because they are collectible and worth far more than a 1985 FLHS or FXRS, for example. The thinking seller will wait for the fanatical buyer.

In the States though, you will find one for $10,000. In fact, there's a couple on cycletrader.com at $8,500. That's a steal, but then, used values for all early-mid 1980s Harleys are rock bottom in the US these days, it seems.

That C/R might be kickable, but again with the right ignition.

Ten Grand would be top price for perfect condition Dave. Seven to eighty five would be fair, bike in average to pretty good nick.
The four speed is collectible, but not very practical here. People will want a five speed.

No need to worry about Baz kicking it. He will probably hire a lackey to do it for him.
