Improved Brake Calipers

Someone has put me onto a shop that sells 2k up style brake calipers (with pads) that will retro fit 84-99 Evos (Without the need for extra brackets) at approx £120 front and £130 rear.

I am assuming these are the 4 pot ones

Its a bit of an obvious question but are these significantly better than the standard ones i have on now (96 Fatboy) ?

Has anyone done this mod using OEM 2k up calipers ?

Re: Improved Brake Calipers

There are threads on here about retrofitting the TC88 callipers to the Evo, using easily fabricated brackets. One of our local guys did it using plans from the very helpful Sussex Coaster Simon A and it made a huge difference. If you PM Simon, he might be able to help you out, and used TC88 calipers are usually to be found on eBay, or classifieds on here...

I can't find the threads, because the search doesn't seem to go back as far as the old site.

The plans were published in the 'quin at the time too.

Adapter plates can be made from 10mm alloy or stainless plate.

Oh, and don't use Harley pads...

Here's a link to a thread where the pix are posted, well down the thread..

Re: Improved Brake Calipers

Thanks

I have spoken to the seller & the ones advertised are bought in from the states already machined and chromed to retro fit with NO adapter plates required.

He is not sure what make the pads are

Re: Improved Brake Calipers

I fitted HD four pots to my RK a while ago. They are superb. Like others here I was looking forward to finding out how the tc88 calipers were 'machined' to fit early legs, I had a close look at mine and decided it would be impossible .

Don't let the confusion put you off, the mod is a goodun and you will not be disapointed, even if you use an adaptor plate.

As a matter of interest I found that the oem rear caliper was well up to the job, I guess the extra weight transfer from the improved front stopping increases the effectiveness of the rear. There may be a techie reason but it works for me

ebay make wonderful tc88 calipers cheap too.

Aye, thats what intrigued me. How can they be fitted without an adapter plate?

Re: Improved Brake Calipers

This is the front one

I rang and was told that they are made to fit direct without an adapter plate, they are not OEM butt copies which have been cast to retrofit

Pic is below

The ones on e bay were a little cheaper

Re: Improved Brake Calipers

Ouch!!
As was mentioned earlier, Simon A provided the drawings for the brackets and spacers. Had 2 brackets and spacers made for a twin caliper set up. Brackets and spacers with fasteners came to about 100 quid. The calipers were 85 quid the pair from ebay.

They aint chrome but I would rather have the beer tokens

Having said all that, if its what ya want just go for it!
