Engine numbers

Anyone know how to decode engine nos.?

My FXRT had the engine changed by a previous owner, don't know why, and I wondered what the new one came from.

Old engine number was ECLF1176657, which matches the frame.

New number is BKLL903070, which I believe may be 1990.

Re: Engine numbers

I think the ENGINE cases are the same, but the tranny is different due to a swingarm-through-transmission case set-up on rubber mount bikes. Never had a 5 speed......Someone who knows this shit will be along to confirm or deny any minute

cases are the same but the motors should be balanced differently to take account of the rubber / rigid engine mountings

however the factory does not do this and balances them all for rigid mounts because the rubber mounts should eliminate the vibes anyway

however if you are rebuilding a bottom end you can take this factor into account, and if the person balancing your motor doesn't ask what frame the motor is going into...................... you may end up paying for a compromised job
