SEH_1 means screaming eagle 1 the very first performance cam for evo's, made by crane who called it a 406, is a bolt in cam on all apart from very early motors IE 84/85 so yes a standard cam can be used to replace it,
But the se1 makes a lot more power /torque at anything over 3000rpm so I guess you would notice the drop in performance at higher revs. good idea to change the oil seal at the nosecone end while its apart.

Don't be gutted, you did the right thing and as a result have had a narrow escape from a bill of a couple of thousand quid. Good work!

Thinking about your breakfast again Bill arent we. Those eggy things are the lobes more a reference to ya ears rather than ya belly. Can anyone enlighten us as to the size of the torx type screws on the tappet block.

If they are still the standard screws then they are 1/4" twelve point, not torx.

as ive had a performance cam removed,and i have adjustable push rods already fitted,the cam followers are like new,can i just by the camshaft,and the torrington bearing and replace.
