Engine revving after a motorway or A road blat.

I've noticed lately that when pulling off the motorway the engine revs remain high (about 2k). Shutting the throttle off doesn't seem to have an effect but blipping the throttle seems to drop it back to idle. It seems to manifest itself after riding at a constant high'ish throttle position. Blipping around local streets doesn't seem to bring this on.
Is this the cable sticking or maybe a strand catching or something else? ECU or sensor problem? 2008 spec 1200. Stage 1 power commander fitted.
Bike has done 20k miles.

Thanks in advance.

First suspect would be throttle position sensor.I'd start by cleaning and checking every connection on the induction module.

Once more with feeling. The first thing you need,to make sense of this problem,is a Factory Manual. If you haven't got one,get one.

Looked on ebay and there is a generic Haynes covering 70's to 2010 which I cant see as being too specific to my 2007/8 model and a Clymer 2004 2011 one. Is this what I require or is it on line / CD cheaper than £40.oo delivered?

Get the H-D one. Try Jersey H-D. If you later sell the bike you will easily sell the manual.

Re: Engine revving after a motorway or A road blat.

i had the exsact same problem it turned out to be the adjuster wheel under the throttle housing on the twist grip .it had some how tightned it self up and had left no play in the twist grip i just slacked if off to leave like a fraction of play in it and it was fine i think i prob did it while cleaning the bike and turned the wheel up with out realisizing simple but took me a while to work out why it was doing it maybe worth a look just to check ?

Cliff, my job is fault finding & 9/10 it's something silly like this & so obvious it's not. Thanks for the heads up on that one I'll check tomorrow.
