New Harley 883 Owner **UPDATE**

Hi

Thanks for all the earlier replys to my 1st thread.

Been riding around for a few miles now and i have a number of thoughts and questions.

1. Noticed some corrosion on top of bottom fork legs and some water ingress into the speedo. Is it worth pursuing a warranty claim??

2. The bike (stock 2005 883 Sportster) does not sound like a Harley should. What are the best pipes to look at. I have to consider i have neighbours and dont want to totally ruin my relationship with them. I have looked at the following:-

Screaming Eagle slip on silencers
Vance and Hines straight shots

Anyone got any experience with these, particularly in relation to noise levels (want loud but not offensive)

3. Can a K&N filter be fitted into the standard air filter box without modification to the box?

4. Do i need to buy a Dynojet kit or is a 175 main and #45 slow jet enough.

Thanks for any input anyone may have. Regards, Mark

Vance & Hines Straight shots are very loud. The SE`s sound like they would fit your bill.
The K&N does not fit in the stock airbox, however the problem is that the stock airbox does not allow enough air in. It may be a little more money but changing the back plate etc does make a difference.
The jetting you suggest should be fine, if you use the V&H`s you may need a slightly larger pilot jet due to the higher air flow.
Don`t forget to drill out the A/F mixture tower & turn out the screw two & a half turns (then adjust to suit).
Disconnect the vacuum to the carbon canister & plug it off.

Had an 883C last year, fitted V+H Straight Shot pipes, got a stage 1 tuned carb off e-bay and a Hypercharger. Ran fine, but the pipes were V.LOUD! Depends how forgiving your neighbours are! SE pipes would probably be better, plus easier to change when its MOT time.

Re: New Harley 883 Owner **UPDATE**

Hi

Thanks for the replys.

I decided to purchase a screaming eagle aircleaner and some Vance and Hines slip ons, stuff the neighbours.....

My local Harley dealer advise that the 04 on Sportsters only need the slow jet changing to #45, the standard main (170) is enough , so they say. This does fit in with what i have read on other sites about how rich 04 on sporsters are supplied from the factory.

Looking forward to hearing it soon..........

With the V&H pipes I would go with the 175 main, the 170 would be good with the SE`s.

If you find that the V&H slip ons are a bit too loud, you can get so called 'quiet baffles' which are slightly (2-3 db) quieter.

On the main jet, you could just ride it and see whether you're lean before putting a bigger jet in.

Yes it is! I had a little corrosion at the top of the fork lowers (very minor) and the dealer replaced them with no quibbles. In fact, I think they even pointed it out to me. They replaced them with chrome lowers too; no charge at all!

My sporty has 2in1 screamers and overall not overly loud. Another option I remember reading about is Superstrapp 2in1 these can be adjusted by using disc's to improve power & noise. No doubt if I'm wrong some one will shout.
