No, can't say I've seen that. I've got a 2005MY 883c (from new) and the speedo seems OK. Not a massive problem as you say, but annoying. See if you can get it changed again if still under warranty.

Re: condensation in speedo!!!??????

We've had it on most of our H-Ds at sometime or other, it normally will happen in damp cold conditions, depends on how bad it is really. A smallish area of about 20 by 10 mm or less would seem the norm.

Mostly it will disappear once you get the bike running as the Speedo bulb is always on so the heat gets rid of it.

Steve's FXR ended up with a slight water mark that was only noticeable in bright sun light.

Condensation should not really leave a watermark like tap water does as it will not have the same limescale etc. deposits in it.

Go easy when you wash the bike, no jet washing, especially round the Speedo area or even with the hose as the Speedos are not that water proof!

If you are not happy with it though make them change it again, there is no easy way to get in and clean it.

It's even worse if you get a little bug in there, you can never get rid of that!

hi Fat Rob @ Kitty, thanks for answering about this problem.iknow other people can have this condition develop as the tech at the dealership told me it was due to the climate here in the U/K+the glass being more liable to condensation than say plastic as fitted to most jap bikes!!!!you know harley, its all traditional stuff that there built with,ITS WHY WE LIKE EM!!!!!!.TARA FOR NOW LOLLYPOP.:

Re: condensation in speedo!!!??????

Yes , mine has got it also ,

It would appear to be a problem with the design rather than a fault on the
individual speedo , my only consern would be if it causes any corrotion on the electrics , time will tell on that one

Re: condensation in speedo!!!??????

my 97 bike has had condensation since new and never given me any problems electrically...

although it does have a tendency to stick if the weather is very hot, but apparently that is my fault for not leaving the ignition on for long enough before pressing start!

Re: condensation in speedo!!!??????

I am not sure whether you are best to just ignore it - so much of the electics seem to go through the speedo that if you do get mositure in it you may start to give you some wierd and infuriating electrical problems.

I started a thread on this forum after my speedo was vandalised last year. I tried to repair it myself but gave up after several attempts because I couldn't keep the moisture out; despite my best efforts with sealant it either wasn't water-tight or I managed to seal mositure in.

It drove me crazy to the point that I couln't read the speedo ot at times it wouldn't work at all . I bit the bullet in the end and got a replacement at vast expense - if you can get it replaced for nothing - why not ?
