What bolts?

Did a really stupid thing this weekend. On stripping down the front brake switch housing to see why the brake light was not working I have damaged the threads. After buggering off down the pub upon my return I can not find the alan bolts. I need to get some more. Anyone got any idea what size they are, what to ask for, where to order from?

I know I can look at the other side but I don't know the difference between a M3 & M8 or whatever it is! I have a replacement housing, with working switch, I just need the bolts. Bike is due for MOT end of the month.

Also, anyone have any idea where the rear brake light switch is and how to adjust it. If I push REALLY hatrd on the back brake it works but in normal usage it does not.

Thanks

Fubar

Follow the brake hose back, you will find a bit that bolts on to it with a pair of wires coming off. That is the switch. It works on pressure in the brake line. Mine only tends to come on when a fair amount of pressure is applied.

The original position of mine (1995) was on the Left hand side near the swing arm. Brake harder

Re: What bolts?

Fubar, are you talking about the torx scews holding the RH switch cluster together? One of mine vibrated out a short while ago on the way to Bristol. Riders had 'em in stock - about 38p or thereabouts each. Why don't you give them a ring and ask them to post you a couple. At least you can be sure you've got the right ones.

Re: What bolts?

Thanks for the advice. Frog my bike is a 1991. Grumpygit, that is exactly the bolts I'm talking about. I'll gve 'em a ring in the morning and see if they will stick them in the post.

Re: What bolts?

Buy yourself a good thread gauge and whenever you take bolts off you can work out what thread they are and then change them to stainless steel. Much better than standard bolts. I have changed all the nuts and bolts on my bike to stainless, either buttonhead, countersunk or standard bolts and it looks a lot better. Contact Dave Middleton ( www.stainlessmiddleton.co.uk ), you can order online or get a catalogue and peruse it at your leisure.
Because your bike is worth it!!
