First time buyer

I'm about to be a fist time buyer with the opposite leg length problem to JC I am quite Tall and have an ample waistline . any other larger riders out there can give me some advice. Have seen a few nice "fat" sportsters and I think this is the way to go. Is the 883 any smaller than the 1200?

They both use the same chassis. It's only the engine that is bigger. I'd also recomend forward controls.

Re: First time buyer

Well I am a rather svelte 17stone , 6ft 1 . I must say that in the past I did think I look a bit silly on the Sporty but after selling it, going to a CBR and now back on a sporty, I can say that I dont care .Comfort is pretty good.Could probably do with a couple of more inches on the forward controls for long journeys. For me ,forwards were a must .With a 34" inseam I just could not fit on a bike with mid controls.

Re: First time buyer

Just to confuse the issue, I am 6'2" and (an extreamly athletic ;) ) 17.5 Stone I have a 1200 Sporty. I have mid controls with forward pegs. I find the forward pegs good to stretch my legs on a long journey but like the control offered by the mid pegs. I too have a 34" inside leg but do not have a problem with the mid controls.

Re: First time buyer

This is good. I really like sportsters but have been told they look like a moped on me a 1340 would be nice (wouldnt it just ) but my budget wont stretch so Ive decided on a 1200. I can wield a spanner so cosmetic alteration shouldnt be much of a problem, most of the ones I am seeing advertised have forwards fitted already and I am thinking Fatbobs and wide front end for the Big look.

Re: First time buyer

why not lok at an 883 and then convert to a 1200, it may work out cheaper, and it will run better than a standard 1200.
im 6' and 18sone, and i have a xl53c. the forwards and straight bars are pretty comfy for me.

I rode an 883 with mid controls for 6 years and I have a 38" inside leg. The highway pegs helped on a long run though! My only gripe with Sportsters is the low seat height - it can be like sitting on a motorised WC...
