Problem with Mustang seat

Ordered a Vintage Solo seat from Mustang .Bloody thing doesnt seem to fit. The hole in the metal tab at the back which attaches to the fender doesnt line up .There is roughly 1/4 inch difference.
What I would like t oknow is what my options are.

I know I can send it back ,and someone has suggested that I wouldnt be liable for the Customs charges again (which were nearly Ł50 ) ,is that right?

Could I , though , have the metal tab relocated 1/4 inch further back on the seat? The bolts with which it is attached are strange looking things though, instead of being a screw head or a torx or hex ,the hole is triangular with very fine slots at the three angles.Never seen them before.

Mounting Suggestions for Mustang Seats
Sportster 2004-up Solo & Passenger Seat

Please review the information below. If you have any questions or need further technical assistance, you are welcome to contact one of our Mustang seat experts at questions@MustangSeats.com or 800-243-1392 or 860-582-9633 Mon-Fri, 9:00 to 5:30, Eastern time.

A. Baseplate Features

The two-piece marine grade fiberglass baseplate mounts using the stock rear fender screw. Vibration is minimized with the strategic placement of rubber bumpers.

For general information about Mustang seat construction Click Here.

B.Removal of Stock Seat
1. Remove the rear 1/4-20 fender screw with a Phillips screwdriver.
2. Lift back of seat up about 1" then push seat backward until the slotted center of the seat releases from the frame's shoulder bolt.

C. Mounting of Mustang Seat

1. Engage seat's nose bracket into the frame at the base of tank just like the stock seat.

2. Fasten back of solo to second hole in fender with supplied fender nut kit. Place solo seat's bracket over fender nut then fasten with our 1x1/4-20 Allen bolt and spool
washer.

3. Slide rear seat into slotted spool washer then fasten to fender with the factory 1/4-
20 screw.

Re: Problem with Mustang seat

Well I havent checked Baz, but wouldnt the fact that it is rubber mounted be a clue that it is a 2004 bike ??

If you Google you will find that Mustang have a European-based website also.

To save big charges/delay...go to them. Mustang's customer service is famously good so I predict you will get well looked after.

Re: Problem with Mustang seat

Hi Sal, just seen this thread. Hope you have it sorted by now.

I too had trouble fitting a Mustang seat to my 2004 Sportster, and for exactly the same reasons. I ended up relocating the metal tab on the back of the seat - bit scary but works fine.

As you are in the UK, I think the advice to contact Mustang is best. These seats are great, but they don't seem to fit as they should.

Re: Problem with Mustang seat

Cheers Ged. Took the seat to the dealers as I could NOT get it to fit at all . They struggled with it for about 1 minute and it was on . Went back and tried again on my bike .It was a struggle but managed to get it on OK. I did have a Mustang on my previous Sporty and it fitted perfectly. I am not looking forward to having to take the seat off for any reason .
