Oil

Was footering with the bike today, and while I was at it I checked the oil level which seemed non-existent so I assume it has drained past the ball valve into the sump. Now can I drain that straight off from the sump or is there a dark secret I need to know as I do not want a hydraulic lock or any other nasties happening, anyone got any advice? Cheers Dave

Re: Oil

Dave, as you have a Sportster you will not have a problem. If you keep the cap off & watch while you start it, you will see the oil level rise in the tank as it pumps it back.
Whatever you do don`t put oil in & overfill it.

No drain plug.

If you are that worried about a Hydraulic lock, plugs out, put in a high gear and turn the engine over by turning the rear wheel in what ever method you fancy.

If it turns, then crank with the plugs out the scavenge will clear the crank cases quickly.

Or plugs back in and fire her up.

I think you are very unlikley to get a hydraulic lock!

Never had a problem with just starting a Sporty up and watching the oil tank refill!

The oil goes all a bit bubbly! ;)

Yeah..... very good point, over fill and the oil either pisses out every where or the dip stick gets launched into space or both if lucky when started!
Seen it happen once, the dip stick came out with quite a pop!

Re: Oil

Took the plugs out and spun her over, and seen the oil return, so no worries there, so as I said before; thanks guys.
