Question upgrade options

i have a new 883L and had it stage 1 tuned from new with harley pipes, (didn't want outrageous noise anymore!) i dont have loads of money and this bike is my everyday transport.
i could wait to save up for a 1200 conversion and it would take a while, and ultimately i would like a mikuni hsr42 carb with a short velocity stack and perhaps supertrapp exhaust to go with it.
question, is it worth fitting the carb and air cleaner now while i wait for the conversion? will i notice much improvement over an already stage 1 tuned 883?
and if so, the only mikuni's i've seen are for the 1200's do they fit ok to the 883 manifold.
hope this makes sense, any reccomendations are much appreciated.cheers tatmac.

Re: upgrade options

I'd save your money mate and save for the conversion. The Mik's not really necessary even after.... Wait till your stock carb wears its slide out, splits its diaphragm etc. and then buy a Mik if you really have to

Re: upgrade options

Or save your money up and buy a 1200 if that's what you want.
Why I mention this is a converted rubber mount 883 will not be the same as the 1200 version, they run different heads and cams and produce a lot more torque.

I'd go with Mike B and run it for a while as is and see if you can find someone who has fitted a MiK carb and see what they think. They are notorious for guzziling gas too and that could be a consideration for a daily ride.

Also if you fit it now you might well not see a lot of performance for your money as it could be oversized for the standard 883 set up of stock heads and cams.
Hopefully someone who has fitted one will be able to help out here.
Plus you will have to retune it all again later if you fit the exhausts and or have a 1200 conversion.

Just my 2 bobs worth.

Re: upgrade options

The Mikuni will be far too big for an 883, go with with the 1200/
