Got a set of fork lowers off of e-bay. What I want to know is what would be better for our foul weather & what is more hard wearing? Paint or powder-coat? Added at 8:50 pm. One other Q. What should i use to flush them out? as there is some residue & crap from the old oil, can take them into my work as we have a cleaning shop that deals with aircraft spec parts. |

| Re: Paint or Powder
I have personally found powdercoating to stand up better and it is **far** quicker to get bits turned round...and cheaper. Your mileage may vary, just my experience If you need colours and can't find anything near you, I can recommend a great place right by A1 at Newcastle who are quick ............and I could do a courier run for you on my commute.... good luck buddy |

Powder is better, but make sure the guys know what their doing, had a case of badley prepared metal, which after just 60 days flaked off and showed rust underneath. Suggest you have a read of this http://my.execpc.com/~davewrit/Powder.html |

Richie, Who did you have in mind to do the work? Seem to recall Ayr Motorcycles used to provide this service? I used a guy in Glasgow, ESP Powdercoating, when I did a rebuild a few years ago. The work he did for me was good and the turn around time was good too. http://sites.yell.com/passport/goto/...8&mapable=true He usually attends the Scottish Bike show |

Stoving generally looks more shiny but is harder and gets chipped easier. Powder is more flexible and so road worthy but looks slightly more dull. I think that these days stoving is more for the concours boys. I've always used powder coating and ride all year and it's stood up pretty well. The fork sliders on the Dyna are looking fine with powder coat but the pivot of the swinging arm just below the mudguard is pitted and rusting after only 6 years...but then that's factory paint for you!! ;) |
