| running lean
I have had the screaming eagle air filter dynojet and harley pipes fitted when i brought the bike new 1200 sportster. I am still running in and have now done around 350 miles. I notice the pipes are blueing quite badly and the bike is popping alot on the overun. I havent whipped out the plugs yet but suspect that this may be running too lean. bike seems to pull fine in the I notice the mixture screw still has the cap. Normally would this have been removed as part of the carb work? george |

the screw you refer to is the pilot air screw and governs the idle to about 1/4 throttle so how the hell could they have set it up? did they by any chance do the jet work? did they charge you for a dynajet if so did they give you the oem parts? ie spring needle and jet? you've been conned if they claim they did a stage one. And what about the damage to your pipes? who wears that? |

the air mixture screw definitely needs adjustment - that removes the popping on over-run. slow jet should prob be changed also the info is all here, along with a recommendation for an aftermarket idle mix screw that really is worth importing. You cannot get it over the counter in UK..... http://www.directparts.com/static/articles/imscrew.html I have used one for years. |

As said, 'they' at the very least can not have fitted the Dynojet kit properly or even at all. Even if they 'supposedly' fitted an alternative needle and or jets 'they' would have certainly needed to adjust that air screw. As to what is involved in fitting a Dynojet kit see the link below. The H-D SE Branded kit is almost identical. They should also supply you with the Dynojet Box with the alternative jets as well as the standard parts, you have paid for them. http://www.dynojet.com/pdf/8135.pdf If you have an '04 on rubber mounted Sportster the air screw is very easy to get to as there is no crossover pipe in the way, so no need for any special tools, screw or burnt hands! |

Exactly as Simon (& the others) say. For normal riding I do not believe that a dynojet kit is neccesary (we can debate that later), but the A/F plug def. need removing. It sound though that the pilot jet was not changed, it needs to be a #48. The stock Main jet usually works fine. The A/F usually takes about two & half turns out. As Simon posted, take it back, get it done right!!!
