Lollypop - Don't go to the dealers for tyres...

Search for tyres on the forum and find a cheaper source - I just boought a pair of White walls for sporty delivered for under £85 from Dave Milling.

Try your local indy for fitting, I was quoted about £15 a tyre but did them myself - don't bother trying, I'd pay £15 without a thought next time!

If you can't find the contact info I'll try to find my receipt (it's somewhere in the garage!)

Good luck,
Buddy

Lollypop, Tyres are a huge safety item, they are ALL that is between your rear end & the blacktop.
Get it done profesionally, or get a new tyre, don`t care where or how much.
I am sure that your life & safety are worth it.

I got my last set of tyres from the local bike shop, Honda dealership I think, just ring round you'd be surprised which bike shops will due them. You need a bike lift or stand to get the wheel out so you might need some help there. Have to agree with the above don't repair tyres. Personally I would sooner spend £200,that I haven't got, at the stealership than risk the repair failing on the motorway.

Try yellow pages to find your local Universal Tyres. They usually do motorcycle tyres, just give them the size you need. It cost me £5 to get a new tyre fitted at the Universal Tyre shop in Borehamwood, Herts.

Lollypop, dont you have any tyre repair shops nearby? Get them to patch the tyre from the inside.

Re: flat tyre/tryed to mend,rubber plug/bung/kit

Hi
I have used repair kits on other bikes. Sometimes you have to make the hole slightly larger with the insertion tool, insert the bung with the paste, don't worry it if sticks out as you can trim. Leave it for a few minutes before inflating tyres. BUT these kits are meant for emergency roadside repairs, not DIY repairs. I would only use it in the garage to get the bike to a tyre shop. Also not all punctures can be repaired. A good tyre shop should be able to repair a tyre properly (providing it can be repaired) and shouldn't charge too much to fit even with the wheels on the bike. In London I would recommend Essential Rubber http://www.docklands-superbike.co.uk/id24.htm, but call first to check they have the tyre you want.
Hope this helps.

Just a thought

If it's a spoked wheel it will have an inner tube won't it so you wouldn't need a new tyre, just a new tube

Re: flat tyre/tryed to mend,rubber plug/bung/kit

dont go to a dealer!!! they are too expensive and only fit dunlops!
i called silverstone HD and he quoted £130 just to fit the tyres, plus the £220 for the dunlops on top!!
in the end i paid £190 fitted for a pair of conti tours which are much better than the stock ones.
