1998 1200 sport On Sat morn at the AGM started the bike up to go into town, all went normally. After a few minutes the engine lamp on the tacho came back on & stayed on. On Sun the same again, light went out after about 100 miles on the M6, but reappeared after it started pissing down at Lancaster services & it didn't go out til I got home. The bike is kept in a garage at home. Will be checking the connections & giving them a spray of WD40. Is there anything else that I should do or look out for? Cheers for any help. |

What does it indicate when the engine lamp comes on? I have seen it on my speedo but it has never lit. |

Trouble code has to be read by a scan tool at the diagnostic plug behind the left side cover. There is a way to manually do it, you can PM me.

. This is in my first post. The oil light is on the row of idiot lights below the speedo/tacho. The light in question is on the tacho face. |

Thanks to Phild I have been able to manually do the diagnostic check. The code that it gave me was 16 - battery voltage. The battery was changed 18 months - 2 years ago. Gonna try a local indie for a load test & voltage check later. What I did notice is that the head light brightens when the engine is revved. Is this normal? I seem to remember Kev Scriv mentioning something about this last Sat. |

| Re: Engine Lamp
it should do that Rich. More throttle equals more output to battery....to bulb. When it *doesn't* brighten a little, that means battery not getting the extra-revs output from alternator Too much output mind you (regulator not regulating the current flow), fries the battery. |

Took the bike out this afternoon, after doing the 40-50 starts after the diagnostics. The engine lamp is now doing as it should, it did not come on at all apart from the usual ignition/start process. |
