| DIY Stage 1
Taken the plunge and gone the whole HOG and got myself a stage one from Discount Biker in sunny Florida. £200 plus the postage £74 (ouch) for S.E. air filter kit, Dynajet and slashdowns (which I thought were appropreate as everytime I go out it seems to slashdown)Anyway, has anyone got any top tips for fitting this lot to a '04 1200 custom, I know there has been alot of threads about jet sizes but anything would be helpful. Thanks Richarley P.s. the local stealer wanted £700 to supply and fit !!!!!! |

all that should come with fitting instructions, follow them. Just take your time and mind how you go with the diaphragm on the carb. The dynojet kit has clear instructions with it. have fun.

RE:- SE kit part No 29045-97B I used it on my 883 and set it up as per the '04 on Dynojet instructions not the SE kit ones and runs well with only a slight extra tweak needed on the mixture screw. Why? Well the big differance between the SE Kit instructions and the Dynojet one is regards the Needle clip position. The SE instructions say Position 3, but the '04 on Dynojet instructions say postion 4. I followed the Dynojet instructions as the kits contain the same parts as the SE kit which is made to cover earlier models and Big twins too, not just late Sportsters as the Dynojet kit does. You can cross referance the parts and instrustions from the following links. Note though that the EU version of the Kits do contain some different parts to the US Dynojet USA http://www.dynojet.com/jetkits/motorcycle/harley.php Dynojet EU http://www.dynojet.com/jetkits/motor...arley_euro.php PS Try first before removing the throttle cables as you may well have enough clearance to do the job without needing to take them off! The hardest bit is getting the carb plug out, it's that easy and no smoking when doing it! |

Thanks for the advise, took it slowly and followed the Dynajet distructions and apart from adjusting the idle it was plug and play Can't believe the stealer wanted £700 to do what took me a couple of evenings to do!!! |

£700? and people wonder why we object to mocco dealings? but seriously it is a relatively simple task, take your time and enjoy it, and when its done successfully you can sit back and say "I did that" feel all smug and feel you just made the bike yours ;)

Stage one working a treat, no pops or farts on over run and clean pull right through the rev range and low down torque. Plus that great sound! One question, the plugs are a lovely light brown colour and the fuel economy seems about the same as before but I hardy need any choke (about 1/4 out) to start from cold and nothing even when left for a couple of hours. The idle is nice and slow and I know the temperature has gone up a bit lately but I was just wondering if this is normal? |
