Cheers

Yes, straight swap. You will need to clearance the heads or have way too much compression though.
Best to use dished type pistons made for the application.

Forgot to say I have the 1200 heads as well.
I know I have to change the ignition sensor plate, do I have to change anything else?

You don`t particularly have to change the ignition. You might want to think about changing the transmission sprocket to get 1200 gearing.

Oh a, that's something I didn't think about, what sizes are available?
I was going to go up one or two teeth on my 4 speed chain to help with fuel economy and hopefully move the bad vibes up the rev band, any idea what the equivalent will be with a belt?

Re: 1990 1200 to 1995 883 barrel swap?

Go for three teeth above what you have. I have done this (can't remember what i ftted now though) but it was three teeth biger. It will cruise all day at 70/80 mph.

When you fit it put the cover back on gently and you will see marks that the sporcket makes on it. File these away till the chain and sprocket rotate freely. There is not much to file away but DON'T FORCE IT.

There is a slight downside in that the first gear is taller as well, driveing in london traffic a lot will not be good. A trip through London is ok but for comuting it will be a chore.

Also remember that the chain will need to be longer, you may have enough adjustment to push the wheel right forward. I fitted a new chain so i did not have that problem.
