Too Hasty!

I have just replaced rear tyre on my 1200S. And in haste when my pal pulled out the rear spindle the spacer which is between the swing arm and rear disc dropped to the floor! Now this spacer has a groove in it, does the grooved edge go towards the disc/beaing or does it go towards the swing arm?
Also he suggested that the spindle go in from the disc side so I don't have to take off the rear silencer next time! Unfortunately the rear silencer had the to be spaced out about 4mm to stop the nut fouling the rear silencer after installation, I wanted to replace it how it was! But as he had to go off to work and I had no-one to hold the bike as I jacked it up, I had to ride home as it is. I am a bit concerned that this is a bit of a bodge! Does it matter that the spindle is now 'in from the disc-side'?

Any advice gratefully received.

Re: Too Hasty!

Hi I have a 2001 1200s just checked it and I assume you mean the grove on the outside of the spacer. If this is the case mine are towards the bearings on both sides.

Regards
