cutting out!

Riding along quite happily today - the bike gave a hiccup and then thirty seconds later cut out.) on a bend!)

A turn off of the engine for a minute or two and then normal services resumed.

10 minutes later - repeat performance.(on the middle lane of a motorway!)
10 seconds later - repeat performamce.
Totally pissed off by this time- took the bike home and swapped bikes so that i could spend more time riding than stopping!

Checked it this evening - it is still doing it,
Suzuki bloke reckons it is probably the ignition module giving up.
Second opinions please!

Re: cutting out!

Hard to diagnose from far away, but Suzuki bloke may well be right.
Classic symptoms of a crapping out ignition module!

Re: cutting out!

Same thing happened with mine when the battery cable was parting from the starter motor.
Notice any flickering on the speedo?

Re: cutting out!

I had the same problem with mine a couple of years ago, would cut out five mins later would start again I could use it for a while then it would cut out again. Easist way to see if it is the ignition module is to remove the cover it should have a red led on it so you can see if it is working when the engine is running. It should also light up when turning the engine over.

Re: cutting out!

Try taking the filler cap off, it may be causing a vacuum

Re: cutting out!

Hi Sue

This sounds alot like when my original ignition module on my 03 Sporty packed up.

After a bit of a missfire it would cut out then maybe start but not go half a mile then wouldnt start at all.

A Stealership (not local) charged me 200 smackers for the module and the tilt cut out thingy they said also was affected plus labour.

I was even more pished orf when Nick Larlin at Vtwin MCS in Rye said he had spare ignition modules for much less or I could have upgraded to a Crane module or whatever.
