| Ouch! Me shocks have bottomed again
I know this may have been done to death but does anyone have any idea how to improve my 2006 XL1200C's rear shocks? They appear to have the strange ability to react harshly on small bumps but also bottom out over larger ones when two up, one up's ok though. Tried altering the preload but this merely makes the ride harder and causes only a slight improvement on the botoming out... I've looked at Hagons etc but I don't really want to change the looks from standard. I've just changed the seat to a sundowner which has cured the odd whingeing noise from the pillion but it's still a slightly nerve wracking experience rattling round the potholes in Brum |

Hi T Bear - my solution was to stop taking pillion - I cant afford an upgrade to new shocks so he has to ride his own bike any miracle cures would be gratefully recd - apart from loosing about 5 stone

The only solution to this seems to be to purchase the Progressive shocks with the Heavy Duty springs. I tried the standard Progressives on my 1200R which still tended to bottom out slightly (it would be worse on a 1200C because of the lowered stance) but switched to the old 1200S set in the end (still bottoms out though even on max settings). Standard set up is hopeless two up and no amount of fiddling can cure that (the big problem are the state of our roads!).

My Mrs is taller than me, 5'11 and whilst she ain't a big'un, she isn't a stick insect either and when I first got the 1200C last month it bottomed out over the profileration of speed bumps where we live. I bought the C Spanner and adjusted the springs to max and it has cured the problem. The ride is harsher but no bottoming out! I also have a sundowner on its way (should have arrived by now...bloody slow post) to cure the funny grumbling sound from the rear! |

Hoping a taller backrest will finally make the sound go away.

The backrest will be the next move once the pennies have been saved! The backrest that goes with the sundowner in the brochure looks ok and we have tried a few different seats etc...put it this way, if it doesn't make the grumbling sound go away, removal of said grumbler is next! Jase |
