gear change problem

Hi

I have an 04 883 Sportster. Recently I have been having trouble shifting down especially from 3 to 2 to 1. I have had no trouble shifting up. I thought the problem was one of the springs in the shifter mechanism. On inspection the springs are OK. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Re: gear change problem

The selector pawl may be out if adjustment but you'll have to remove the primary case again and the clutch to get to it.

Thumbs up Re: gear change problem

Now sorted!

After stripping the transmission case and checking the springs etc it still wasn't any better.

Eventually I realised it was the forward controls that were partially siezed in the nylon bush - Doh!!

I needed the transmission oil changing anyway!

Dont worry I think alot of people have made that mistake, I had it with a a newish GSXR1000 which I rode home in third gear only to find that when in took the linkages off the gearbox was ok it was the pinion. A common fault i was told later.
