Re: coversion

I did mine as soon as the warranty ran out. A lot more grunt and easier cruising specially two up. It's not just a case of boring out the barrrels, I found she was then under-geared for what I wanted and gearing up brings its own expense. Pleased with the conversion better than a standard 1200.

Re: conversion

I presume you are East Midlands as that is where I moved your post from?

If so ......Ask Kev French at Le ROCK Ltd: Mansfield Le Rock Choppers.

If you are not in that area see our Suppliers section.

Alan,
I'm interested as to why you think it's better than a standard 1200.
It's just that I've considered buying a 1200 before now and wondered what advantages it would have (if any) over my 883R (stage 1).

A friend of mine in the States who has owned a few HD's always praises the 883 but always adds that the 1200 is less good.

Anyone know why--he just says they never feel as good when I question him on it.

Cheers
Andy

Re: conversion

I've taken it to 1200 with a squawkin chicken ignition module and coil. Also I geared up to 1200 spec. If you bore out the standard barrels and leave the head at 883 you are going to get different compression to the 1200 head. That's all I can put the diferrence down to but when I'm out with my mate on his 1200 centenary model he struggles to keep up away from lights even though we not racing. Mine just seems to accerate faster.

Re: conversion

I did the basic 1200 conversion using S/E cylinders and 9.5 -1 wiseco reverse dome pistons. I did the work myself which was straight forward enough, I did one cylinder at a time and when finished no parts were left over. The difference riding is remarkable, I have not changed the gear ratios nor do I intend to change them they are OK to me. I bought my bits from Zanottis in America it was cheaper than a rebore and new pistons here. I still have my 883 barrels and pistons. I had about 3000 miles on '04 883 engine when I did the conversion.
